Sub-bass cardioid configurations increase the front pressure and directivity, ensuring that rear sound does not spill
on to the stage behind the sub-bass. Seven cardioid configurations are now available for the sub enclosure LX-218S.
With these new configurations you can obtain up to 24 dB of attenuation behind the cabinet between 30Hz and 100Hz,
and between 1 and 1.5 dB more SPL up front.
Here is just one example of the seven configurations, in this case we are using the Mode 6:
In this case for A cabinets you have to select the new preset 10 and for B cabinets use the new preset 16.
In the first image you can see the LX-218S polar response with cardioid Mode 6 at 60 Hz. On the second you have the
same configuration but with the cabinet B muted. You can appreciate the differences behind the enclosures, with a
big attenuation in the first image.
LX-218S units existing on the market manufactured from January 2012 can be updated with these new presets. Just
connect your subwoofer to the computer using the Cabinet Updater software using a standard USB cable. You will
have all these new presets available in the DSP core of your cabinet very quickly. And then, from the buttons below
the display on the cabinet’s back panel you will be able to select these new seven cardioid presets.
